Red Bull Astronaut

Fearless Felix

When I was a kid I wanted to be either a stunt man or a secret agent. Preferably both. Fortunately it didn’t take too many trips to the ER to dissuade me from that career path (with a little help from my parents). And while I am still a thrill seeker, I am nowhere near the league of the current Red Bull extremists.

Roger Moore was the 007 I liked best, and while his exploits and antics seem tame by today’s standards, James Bond movies probably cleared the path for modern extreme sports.

Red Bull has successfully co-branded the essence of extreme. Sponsorships of the X-Games, F-1, and wingsuited  sky divers leaves no gap between the Red Bull brand promise and feats of human daring.

Which brings us to Felix Baumgartner.

Before he became the man who leaped from the edge of space, Felix Baumgartner performed many daring feats in support of the Red Bull brand (he deserves a free lifetime supply).

By breaking multiple world records (and breaking the speed of sound with his BODY), Baumgartner achieved legendary status, in my book at least.

For background on his daredevil resumé, I wrote and designed the layout for an article detailing one of Felix’s stunts in Sweden in 2005, where he did a double down.
